WHY PROTECT CAPE VERDEAN MONKEYS?
The Santuario dos macacos de Cabo Verde association is preparing, with the support of partners, the organization of an awareness campaign on the protection of monkeys and the preservation of biodiversity in Cape Verde. The start of the campaign is scheduled for the first quarter of 2023 at the national level and aims to stimulate reflection among the general public on the situation of monkeys and their role in protecting forests and combating climate change, but also at the level of ecotourism which supports actions to protect monkeys in their natural habitat. In Cape Verde, monkeys generally have a bad image, as the scant information circulating about them indicates the damage they cause in agricultural areas when they are in search of food, as their territory shrinks from year to year. The aim of this campaign is therefore to restore a positive image of monkeys in order to fight against abusive slaughter and ill-treatment of them, and to mobilize national authorities. Posters were developed in Creole, Portuguese, French and English around a question; "WHY PROTECT CAPE VERDE'S MONKEYS? "
